Nagoshi-ooharae-shiki

The "Nagoshi-ooharae-shiki" (Summer purification ceremony) will be held at the Haraedo Shrine near the main hall of Kasuga Taisha Shrine from 3pm on June 30th.
After the ritual, people pass through a "Chinowa" (a large ring made of woven grass) set up on the approach to the shrine, praying to "make it through the summer safely and without getting sick."
This is not only practiced at Kasuga Taisha, but at many other shrines across Japan as well.
It's a ceremony that gives you a real sense of Japan, so if you're interested, why not go and see it for yourself?
