What is Setsubun?
February 3rd is Setsubun.
Setsubun marks the change of seasons and refers to the day before Risshun, the beginning of spring.
In each household, events are held to ward off misfortune and wish for health and happiness.
The most popular event is eating a rolled sushi called “Ehomaki” without cutting it.
People face the direction that is considered the most auspicious for that year and silently devour their sushi rolls.
The south-southeast seems to be the auspicious direction this year.
