The Tale of Kotsubu-chan ~The Life and Death of a 5-month-old Fawn~
In November 2022, in the Tobihino section of Nara Park, there was an August-born fawn.
Fawns are usually born between May and July, so this fawn, Kotsubu, was smaller than the others.
Because she was so cute and tiny, tourists often touched her fur, giving it the smell of humans.
Kotsubu was skinny, because she could not get her mother’s milk.
If the smell of humans attaches to a baby deer, their mothers sometimes abandon them and stop breastfeeding.
On January 14, 2023, Kotsubu’s 5-month life was over.
Kotsubu was all alone, and could not be reunited with her mother.
This story is true.
Please do not touch the fawn so that such a sad thing will never happen again.
