Sohei(Monk Soldier) protects deer in Nara Park
Sohei are armed monks who were organized to protect temples from the Heian period to Warring
States period(approx.790s to 1500s).
It is said that it originally began when workers working at temples, rather than monks, were armed to prevent bandits.
The modern Sohei will not tolerate people who use violence against deer or litter the garbage!
