Why are deer in Nara Park considered messengers of the god?

There is a legend that a long time ago, a deity called Takemikazuchi no Mikoto came to Nara riding on a white deer.
If it had been a cold season, this might have happened...?

~At Kashima Shrine~
“God, are you really going to Nara?”
“Yes, I’m going to ride this white deer.”

“Got it. However, since it will be a tough journey, I have prepared a good thing.”
“This One!”
“Oh, this is…”
“Wait, please!”

“It’s a long way to Nara, so I set up two deer and attached a sled so that the deer could run easily.”
“Here you go!”
“Oh, this is completely like that famous Christmas…”

“If it's cold, you'll be in trouble, so bring a hat and coat.”
“I made them red to stand out.”
“Am I going to be mistaken for someone else?”
