Basara Festival
On August 30th and 31st, the Basara Festival will be held around Nara Park.
The Basara Festival is an event that focuses on street dance and started in 1999.
Many teams, from children to adults, will parade while dancing in gorgeous costumes.
Basara originally referred to intentionally breaking the rhythm in music and dance as a form of expression to stand out, which was popular during the Kamakura and Muromachi periods over 800 years ago.
The Basara Festival revives that power and energy in modern times, bringing energy to people.
Why not come and see it?
