A sad incident occurred in Nara Park
In November 2022, in the Tobihino section of Nara Park, there was an August-born fawn.
Fawns are usually born between May and July, so this fawn, Kotsubu, was smaller than the others.
Because she was so cute and tiny, tourists often touched her fur, giving it the smell of humans.
Now her mother is nowhere to be seen.
Kotsubu is skinny, because she can’t get her mother’s milk.
If the smell of humans attaches to a baby deer, their mothers sometimes abandon them and stop breastfeeding.

Kotsubu is gone now.
To the place under the tree,
that she had made her bed,
little Kotsubu could never return.

On January 14, 2023, Kotsubu’s 5-month life was over.
The saddest part was even at the end, Kotsubu was all alone, and could not be reunited with her mother.
Please, do not touch the fawns and just look at them from a distance.
