Seven pounds (3.2 kg) of plastic bags in a deer's stomach!

In April 2019, an autopsy of a dead deer revealed seven pounds (3.2 kg) of plastic bags and garbage from its stomach.

Many deer in Nara Park have plastic garbage in their stomachs.
This is because they mistake discarded bags of sweets, straws and candy wrappers for food and eat them.

If seven pounds (3.2 kg) of garbage accumulates in the stomach, the deer would not be able to eat grass, their staple food, and the deer would become weak and die.
Convenience stores and take-out restaurants are increasing around Nara Park, and tourists who eat and drink while walking in Nara Park are increasingly dumping garbage there.
